Fellow females, the earlier we educate ourselves on the matter, the better equipped we’ll be to deal with it when it occurs in our lifetime.
Menopause is one part of a woman’s reproductive life. Menopause has 4 stages:
1. Premenopause: refers to the time of a woman’s life from her first to last normal menstrual period.
2. Perimenopause: refers to the time near menopause. It marks the stage of 2-10 years before the ending of the menstrual period. Women from ages 35-50 fall into this time period. During perimenopause, women experience hormone fluctuations which include common symptoms like hot flashes.
3. Menopause: refers to the terminal stage of a woman’s reproductive cycle. During menopause, the hormones estrogen and progesterone production reduces to very low levels. A woman is no longer able to naturally become pregnant since her ovaries stop making eggs (ova).
4. Postmenopause: refers to the time frame of a woman’s life after menopause has happened. Usually, postmenopause beings when a full year has passed since the last menstruation cycle.
